FACE PAINTING

Dear Weeb,

You had your face painted for, I think the first time. It was after a birthday party and you and some of your friends noticed a Children's Festival taking place in the mall we were visiting for the party. One of your classmates and her older sister were having their faces painted, and you said you'd like to do that, too. I was shocked. You've always passed up on face painting.

So you stood in line and waited, then explained to the lady what you would like painted. Your classmate's older sister had a string of flowers, a heart and a smiley face. You wanted all of those and a butterfly, please. I stood back to let you communicate your wishes to the face painter. You've always been very good at talking.

You were so pleased with it! You did look incredibly cute! You wished and wished that it would last until the next day, but you took it pretty well when you woke up in the morning and it was gone. My guess is we won't be able to pass another face painting stand/booth without standing in line!

BUTTERCUPS

Dear Weeb,

We were walking home from school and I saw some buttercups. It made me think of when I was in school and we used to hold them up to our chins and... wait... why did we do that?

As we walked, it was like you read my mind and said, "Mummy, do you know that if you hold a buttercup under your chin, if your chin glows yellow, it means you like butter?" I said what all good mothers would say, "Really?"

And so we picked a few and tried it.

Seems you like butter. I do too, but we don't need those pictures. You'll have to check my archives one day, if you want a chuckle at my expense.

SNAILS

Dear Weeb,

You are fascinated by the snails that litter the pathway to school. I'm not sure where they go during the day and I'm not certain why they like the rain so much and I have absolutely NO idea what makes them different from slugs, other than they have shells. But you are fascinated, so I guess we'll have to figure it out.

A few days after we took these photos, it rained again and there were TINY snails everywhere. Snail babies? Do snails have babies? I guess they do. It's funny how few get stepped on in our townhouse complex. I guess nobody can bring themselves to stomp on one of these pretty little shells on purpose. When you see a crushed shell it makes you really sad.

NEW SCOOTER

Dear Weeb,

You've been riding a scooter at school, in gym class. You've been very excited about riding it, and you've never asked for a scooter, but I knew you wanted one. So Daddy and I surprised you with one. You love it. You're a bit hesitant on it, but you are absolutely loving it!

OUTDOORS

Dear Weeb,

Hanging out at Grandma & Grandpa's, you were making chalk drawings on their patio stones in the back yard. This, according to you, this is a Rainbow Candy Shop. I can see it.

You and your cousin J built this little nest for a little rolly-polly bug (pill bug). It rolled up into a little ball, but you and J kept making a lovely nest for it. It drives Grandpa nuts when you guys pull the rocks out of his rock beds - he's certain he's going to end up hitting one with his lawn mower. Grandpa couldn't bare to have either of you destroy your grand creation though. Not for that day, anyways. You were quite annoyed when the next time you went to visit, it wasn't still there.

MOTHER'S DAY TEA 2011

On Mother's Day, WE had tea with Grandma. We had REAL tea and posh little cucumber sandwiches, which Grandma prepared especially for you. You had wanted to have a REAL princess tea with Grandma for Mother's Day, you see (complete with your princess tea set). And Grandma is pretty awesome about hosting awesome teas, even when they are in her honor.

It was a pretty fantastic Mother's Day tea!

DANDELION PUFFS

Dear Weeb,

The best thing about dandelions is that they turn into dandelion puffs!

SUNSHINE AND BUBBLES

It doesn't get much better than this.

COINCIDENCE

Dear Weeb,

It is VERY difficult to explain what 'coincidence' means.

You're not quite getting it, but as always, you've turned every example into something about you getting a handsome boyfriend. LOL

DANDELIONS

Dear Weeb,

You are in love with dandelions, which you proven by bringing them home from school, by the dozens, guaranteed on every non-rainy day for the past two weeks.

I'm trying to teach you that they are much prettier when you leave them in the ground (though your grandfather would likely disagree).

Ah well, if they make you happy, go on and pick dandelions. I hope you have years of enjoyment from something as simple as collecting little yellow weeds.
